About the Opportunity 

Torex Gold is currently looking for a full-time Manager, Mine Technical Services to join our mining operations team in Mexico, on a fly-in, fly-out, and 20 days on/10 days off schedule.

In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of technical services for the Media Luna Mine including surveying, production geology, mine planning, costing, hydrology, and geotechnical. This work includes optimization and delivery of the various levels of mine planning, in conjunction with the mine operational team to safely produce the ore forecasted in the Life Of Mine plan, while being accountable for the design and completion of all near-mine exploration.

More specifically, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development of monthly mine plan for both open pit and underground mines at ML and ELG
  • Manage deviations from plan to actuals, adjusts plan to ensure overall achievement of plan by the Mine Operations team
  • Accountable for the development of the 3- and 12-month mine production forecast and manage production to forecast
  • Manage the preparation of the physicals related to the mine plan, ensuring the most effective and efficient use of resources and accurate budget planning
  • Manage the revision and validation of ore blending to maximize recovery and milling rates at the plant and ensures operations are executing the mine plan as designed
  • Complete and manage the reconciliation process to identify root causes of deviations from mine’s plan
  • Accountable for the overall quality and accuracy of the resource, production, and conversion models
  • Ensure the Geology and Short-Term Planning teams have considered the right elements in making recommendations to adjust the production models
  • Manage the conversion of resources to reserves
  • Ensure protocols and standards are being reviewed and updated so that production models are efficient and effective
  • Approve all adjustments to operational protocols and standards, and manages the communication of changes to operations mine management
  • Manage the execution of the drilling program, ensuring resources used in the process produce relevant information required to update the resource and production model
  • Ensure the water management program is designed in a manner that promotes the efficient consumption of water at sites and manages the dynamic levels of water in the mines
  • Ensure water systems are designed in the most effective and efficient manner, ensuring optimal water consumption
  • Manage the preparation of hydrology models for the UG and Open Pit mines, ensuring the overall de-watering system design is effective and efficient

More About You 

In order to qualify for this role, you will need 10+ years of experience in a similar role in underground mining, with progressive experience in managing a large technical services function.

The following skills, knowledge, and education are strong assets:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or Mine Planning
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • Bilingual in Spanish – This would be considered an asset but not a requirement
  • Experience in developing teams: recruiting team members, coaching and feedback, evaluation of performance, and delegation of tasks
  • Experience in underground mining operations, covering all planning aspects, operation budget physicals and costing, and geological resourcing 
  • Experience going through a process of evaluation and stabilization of technical standards and processes
  • Experience in waste and tailings storage facility management is required
  • Experience in gold mining 
  • Knowledge of mine planning software (MineSight preferred)
  • Familiar with Hexagon or a similar fleet management system
